Job description

Performing Imaging Examinations: Operating X-ray machines and other imaging equipment to create diagnostic images of patients’ internal structures. Positioning patients correctly and ensuring they are comfortable and properly shielded during the procedure. Patient Care and Safety: Explaining procedures to patients, addressing their concerns, and ensuring their cooperation during imaging exams. Practicing radiation safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, themselves, and other healthcare personnel. Image Processing and Quality Control: Developing X-ray films or processing digital images to ensure clarity and accuracy of diagnostic images. Performing quality assurance checks on equipment and maintaining imaging equipment in good working condition. Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Working closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to review imaging results and assist in patient care decisions. Documenting procedures, maintaining patient records, and communicating findings effectively to healthcare providers. Continuing Education and Professional Development: Staying updated with advances in imaging technology, procedures, and safety regulations through continuing education and training. Pursuing certifications or specialized training in specific imaging modalities (e.g., CT, MRI) to expand skills and career opportunities. Skills and Qualifications: Education: Typically requires an associate degree in radiography or a related field from an accredited program. Some positions may require a bachelor's degree or higher for advanced roles or specialization. Certification: Most employers prefer or require certification as a Registered Technologist (RT) through organizations like the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating X-ray and imaging equipment, understanding of anatomy and physiology, and knowledge of radiographic techniques. Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication with patients and healthcare team members to ensure accurate imaging and patient comfort. Attention to Detail: Accuracy in positioning patients and obtaining clear diagnostic images, adhering to protocols, and documenting procedures. Critical Thinking: Ability to assess imaging results, recognize abnormalities or artifacts, and assist in diagnostic decision-making.
