Job description

Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for X-ray procedures by explaining the process, answering questions, and ensuring their comfort and safety. Position patients correctly on the X-ray table and use immobilization devices or protective shielding as needed to obtain optimal images and minimize radiation exposure. Equipment Operation: Operate X-ray machines and other imaging equipment to capture high-quality images of the body's internal structures. Adjust exposure settings, positioning of equipment, and patient positioning to obtain clear and accurate images while adhering to safety protocols. Image Processing: Process and develop X-ray films or digital images using specialized equipment and software. Evaluate the quality of images for clarity, detail, and diagnostic value, and retake images if necessary to ensure diagnostic accuracy. Radiation Safety: Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and protocols to minimize radiation exposure risks for patients, yourself, and other healthcare personnel. Use lead aprons, gloves, thyroid shields, and other protective gear to shield against radiation during X-ray procedures. Quality Assurance: Perform routine quality control checks on X-ray equipment, including calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Ensure that equipment is functioning properly and meets regulatory standards for safety and image quality. Patient Care and Communication: Provide compassionate and empathetic care to patients during X-ray procedures, addressing their concerns and ensuring their comfort and cooperation. Communicate effectively with patients, explaining the procedure, providing instructions for positioning and breathing, and reassuring them throughout the process. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of X-ray procedures, including patient information, imaging parameters, and findings. Ensure that documentation is complete, legible, and compliant with regulatory requirements and departmental policies. Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care and accurate interpretation of imaging studies. Communicate any significant findings or abnormalities to the appropriate healthcare providers promptly. Emergency Response: Respond effectively to medical emergencies or adverse reactions during X-ray procedures, providing appropriate assistance and support to patients while following established protocols for emergency management. Continuing Education: Stay updated on advances in X-ray technology, imaging techniques, and safety standards through continuing education, professional development activities, and participation in relevant conferences or seminars. Specialized Procedures: Perform specialized X-ray procedures, such as fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT), mammography, or bone densitometry, following specialized training and certification requirements. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' rights, safety, and well-being during X-ray procedures, ensuring that their needs and preferences are respected and addressed throughout the imaging process. Infection Control: Adhere to strict infection control practices and protocols to prevent the spread of infections within the radiology department and healthcare facility. Maintain a clean and hygienic environment in X-ray rooms and equipment. Ethical Conduct: Uphold ethical standards and principles of professional conduct in all aspects of X-ray technology practice, including patient confidentiality, informed consent, and respect for patients' dignity and autonomy. Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement projects aimed at enhancing the quality, safety, and efficiency of X-ray services and patient care within the radiology department.
