In this role, your responsibilities are to analyze the wheels and tires on each vehicle, conduct necessary services such as changing and rotating tires, and align the wheels per manufacturer specifications. You also perform inspections to test the safety of the vehicle and to ensure alignment was done correctly. Alignment refers to an adjustment of a vehicle's suspension – the system that connects a vehicle to its wheels. It is not an adjustment of the tires or wheels themselves. The key to proper alignment is adjusting the angles of the tires which affects how they make contact with the road. A wheel alignment is done using an alignment machine that measures the vehicle's wheel angles. These are calculated and compared against your vehicle's original specifications. The technician makes adjustments to the camber, caster, and toe of each wheel as needed.
