Supervising Service: The restaurant captain oversees the entire dining room operation, including assigning sections to servers, coordinating seating arrangements, and managing table turnovers to ensure efficient service. Greeting and Seating Guests: They warmly welcome guests as they arrive, assist them with seating, and escort them to their tables. The captain ensures that guests are seated promptly and according to their preferences. Taking Reservations: Captains manage the restaurant's reservation system, take reservations over the phone or online, and ensure that tables are reserved and prepared accordingly. Managing Server Assignments: They assign sections to servers based on their experience, skill level, and the current flow of guests. Captains may also provide guidance and support to servers during service. Assisting Guests: Captains act as a point of contact for guests, addressing any inquiries, special requests, or concerns they may have. They ensure that guests have an enjoyable dining experience from start to finish. Coordinating with the Kitchen: Captains communicate orders and special requests to the kitchen staff, ensuring that food is prepared correctly and delivered to the tables in a timely manner. Upselling and Menu Knowledge: They are knowledgeable about the restaurant's menu offerings, including daily specials, wine selections, and recommended pairings. Captains may upsell menu items to guests and provide recommendations based on their preferences.
