Job description

Patient Interaction and Preparation: Interact with patients to explain procedures, address concerns, and ensure their comfort and safety during imaging examinations. Obtain relevant medical history, verify patient identification, and explain the purpose and process of the imaging procedure. Equipment Operation: Operate radiographic equipment, such as X-ray machines, computed tomography (CT) scanners, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, and fluoroscopy units, to produce high-quality images of the patient's anatomy. Positioning and Image Acquisition: Position patients correctly on the imaging table or equipment according to specific imaging protocols and anatomical landmarks. Adjust equipment settings, exposure parameters, and imaging techniques to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation dose. Radiation Safety: Follow radiation safety guidelines and protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and yourself. Use radiation shielding devices, such as lead aprons and thyroid shields, and adhere to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to ensure safe imaging practices. Image Processing and Evaluation: Process, review, and evaluate radiographic images for quality, clarity, and diagnostic accuracy. Identify any artifacts, positioning errors, or technical issues that may affect image interpretation and take corrective actions as needed. Quality Assurance: Perform quality control tests and checks on imaging equipment and accessories to ensure proper functioning, calibration, and performance. Maintain accurate records of quality assurance activities and participate in accreditation and regulatory compliance programs. Patient Care and Support: Provide compassionate and empathetic care to patients throughout the imaging process, addressing their physical and emotional needs. Monitor patients for signs of distress or discomfort during procedures and offer reassurance and assistance as needed. Image Archiving and Documentation: Document imaging procedures, findings, and patient information accurately and comprehensively in medical records or electronic health records (EHR). Ensure proper labeling, storage, and retrieval of radiographic images for future reference and interpretation. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care, interpret imaging findings, and develop treatment plans. Communicate effectively and share relevant information to support multidisciplinary care delivery. Continuing Education and Professional Development: Stay updated on advances in radiography technology, imaging techniques, and best practices through continuing education, training programs, and professional development activities. Pursue certification, licensure, or specialization to enhance your skills and credentials in radiography. Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies or adverse events that may occur during imaging procedures. Follow established protocols and procedures for managing emergency situations, including CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and basic life support interventions. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patient safety, privacy, and rights throughout the imaging process, ensuring informed consent, confidentiality, and respect for patient autonomy. Advocate for appropriate imaging studies and techniques to support accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. Ethical and Legal Compliance: Adhere to ethical principles, professional standards, and legal regulations governing radiography practice, including patient confidentiality, informed consent, and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and uphold patient rights and dignity at all times. Professionalism and Communication: Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and effective communication skills in interactions with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals. Foster a positive work environment and contribute to a culture of collaboration, respect, and teamwork within the radiology department. Research and Innovation: Participate in research projects, quality improvement initiatives, or innovation efforts aimed at advancing the field of radiography, improving imaging technologies, and enhancing patient care outcomes.
