Job description

Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to pharmacy patrons by greeting them warmly, addressing inquiries, and assisting with product selection. Answer questions about over-the-counter medications, health products, and prescription refills. Prescription Processing: Assist pharmacists with prescription processing tasks, including entering prescription orders into the pharmacy computer system, retrieving and filing prescription records, and verifying patient information and insurance coverage. Medication Dispensing: Prepare and dispense prescription medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Count, measure, or pour medications accurately, label prescription containers, and assemble prescription orders for patients. Inventory Management: Assist with inventory management tasks, such as receiving and stocking medications, verifying expiration dates, and rotating stock to ensure freshness and compliance with regulatory requirements. Medication Packaging: Package medications into unit-dose containers, blister packs, or prescription vials according to pharmacy protocols and patient preferences. Label medication packages with relevant information, including dosage instructions and cautionary labels. Medication Reconciliation: Assist with medication reconciliation processes, such as reviewing medication lists, identifying discrepancies, and coordinating communication between patients, prescribers, and pharmacists to ensure accurate medication histories. Cash Handling: Process payments for prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and healthcare supplies using cash registers or point-of-sale (POS) systems. Handle cash, credit card transactions, and insurance billing accurately and securely. Patient Education: Provide basic medication counseling and education to patients, including instructions on medication use, potential side effects, and storage requirements. Offer guidance on over-the-counter products, dietary supplements, and health-related resources. Health Screening Services: Assist with health screening services, such as blood pressure monitoring, glucose testing, and cholesterol screenings. Collect and record health data accurately, and refer patients to pharmacists or healthcare providers for follow-up care as needed. Compliance Monitoring: Monitor patient adherence to medication therapy regimens and refill schedules. Remind patients of upcoming medication refills, prescription pickups, and medication adherence best practices to promote medication compliance and continuity of care. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations, policies, and procedures, including patient privacy laws (e.g., Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA) and pharmacy practice standards. Adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures to maintain a safe and sanitary pharmacy environment. Continuing Education: Participate in continuing education programs, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge, skills, and competency in pharmacy practice. Stay updated on new medications, healthcare technologies, and industry trends to provide quality service to pharmacy patrons.
