Job description

Assisting with Evaluations: OT technicians assist occupational therapists in conducting initial assessments and evaluations of clients' functional abilities, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial skills. They may help gather information, administer standardized assessments, and document assessment findings. Preparing Treatment Areas: They prepare treatment areas and equipment for therapy sessions, ensuring that they are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies. This may involve setting up therapy tables, exercise equipment, assistive devices, and therapeutic materials. Assisting with Treatment Sessions: OT technicians support therapists during therapy sessions by providing hands-on assistance to clients, facilitating therapeutic exercises and activities, and monitoring clients' progress and safety. They may assist with mobility training, activities of daily living (ADL) training, and sensory integration activities. Monitoring Client Progress: They observe and document clients' responses to therapy interventions, including improvements, challenges, and changes in functional abilities. OT technicians communicate this information to therapists to inform treatment planning and modifications. Providing Personal Care: OT technicians may assist clients with personal care tasks, such as dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, as needed during therapy sessions. They ensure that clients' basic needs are met and that they are comfortable and supported throughout the therapy process. Maintaining Equipment: They maintain and clean therapy equipment and assistive devices, ensuring that they are in good working condition and sanitized between uses. OT technicians may also assist with equipment setup and adjustments based on clients' needs. Assisting with Administrative Tasks: OT technicians may assist with administrative tasks related to client scheduling, documentation, and billing. They help maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and billing information, in compliance with healthcare regulations. Educating Clients and Families: They provide education and support to clients and their families on therapeutic techniques, home exercise programs, and adaptive strategies to promote independence and functional skills outside of therapy sessions. Collaborating with Healthcare Team: OT technicians collaborate with occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care and interdisciplinary communication. They may participate in team meetings and contribute insights on clients' progress and needs. Professional Development: OT technicians engage in ongoing professional development to enhance their knowledge and skills in occupational therapy practice. This may include attending workshops, training sessions, and continuing education courses, as well as pursuing certifications or licensure as required.
