Job description

Preoperative Preparation: Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and in working order. Set up surgical tables, lights, monitors, and anesthesia equipment according to procedure requirements. Sterilization and Instrumentation: Sterilize and prepare surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for use in the operating room. Follow standard protocols and guidelines for instrument sterilization, packaging, and storage to maintain sterility and prevent contamination. Patient Assistance and Positioning: Assist surgical team members in positioning patients on the operating table and securing them safely for surgery. Provide support and comfort to patients during preoperative preparations and positioning procedures. Assisting Surgeons and Nurses: Assist surgeons, nurses, and other surgical team members during surgical procedures by passing instruments, sutures, and supplies as needed. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide assistance quickly and efficiently. Maintaining Sterile Field: Maintain a sterile field in the operating room throughout surgical procedures by adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols. Monitor and enforce sterile practices among surgical team members to prevent surgical site infections. Equipment Operation and Troubleshooting: Operate and monitor surgical equipment, devices, and machinery during surgical procedures, including anesthesia machines, monitors, suction devices, and electrosurgical units. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and notify appropriate personnel for repairs or replacements. Postoperative Cleanup: Assist with postoperative cleanup and disinfection of operating rooms, equipment, and instruments following surgical procedures. Dispose of biohazardous waste, sharps, and contaminated materials according to infection control guidelines and regulations. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, instrument counts, and patient information in electronic health records (EHR) or surgical logs. Document any intraoperative events, complications, or deviations from standard protocols for review and quality assurance purposes. Emergency Response: Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies or unexpected events in the operating room, such as equipment failures, patient complications, or medical emergencies. Assist with emergency procedures, resuscitation efforts, and patient stabilization as needed. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with surgical team members, including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgical assistants, to ensure effective communication and coordination during surgical procedures. Maintain professionalism, respect, and teamwork in the operating room environment. Continuing Education: Participate in ongoing training, education, and professional development activities to stay updated on advances in surgical technology, techniques, and best practices. Pursue certifications or specialized training in operating room technology to enhance skills and knowledge in the field. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patient safety, comfort, and well-being throughout the perioperative process. Communicate with patients and their families, provide information and reassurance, and address any concerns or questions they may have about their surgical experience.
