Job description

Preoperative Preparation: Assisting with the setup and preparation of the operating room before surgical procedures. This includes ensuring that the surgical suite is clean, sterile, and properly equipped with surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment. Sterilization of Instruments: Sterilizing and preparing surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for use in the operating room. Following established protocols and guidelines to maintain sterile technique and prevent infections. Assisting Surgeons and Nurses: Providing support to surgeons, surgical assistants, and perioperative nurses during surgical procedures. Handing instruments, supplies, and equipment to the surgical team as needed and anticipating their requirements. Maintaining Sterile Field: Maintaining the sterile field during surgical procedures by draping patients and ensuring that sterile barriers are not breached. Taking appropriate measures to prevent contamination and minimize the risk of surgical site infections. Patient Positioning: Assisting with the positioning and transferring of patients on the operating table before, during, and after surgery. Ensuring that patients are properly positioned to facilitate surgical access and minimize discomfort. Monitoring Patient Vital Signs: Monitoring patients' vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and temperature, during surgical procedures. Alerting the surgical team to any significant changes in the patient's condition. Instrumentation and Equipment Management: Assisting with the setup, operation, and maintenance of surgical instruments, equipment, and devices used in the operating room. Ensuring that equipment is functioning properly and ready for use. Safety and Infection Control: Adhering to safety protocols, infection control practices, and regulatory standards to maintain a safe and hygienic environment in the operating room. Following established procedures for handling hazardous materials and waste. Emergency Response: Assisting in emergency situations or unexpected events during surgical procedures, such as hemorrhage, cardiac arrest, or equipment failure. Collaborating with the surgical team to provide prompt and effective emergency care to patients. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Documenting pertinent information related to surgical procedures, including instrument counts, specimens collected, and other relevant data. Ensuring accurate and timely documentation in patient records and surgical logs. Communication and Collaboration: Communicating effectively with members of the surgical team, including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals. Collaborating to ensure coordinated care and optimal patient outcomes. Continuing Education and Professional Development: Participating in continuing education programs, training courses, and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in surgical technology. Pursuing certifications or licensure as required by regulatory agencies or professional organizations.
