Job description

Preparation of Operating Room: Prepare the operating room before surgical procedures by ensuring that all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and properly sterilized. Set up surgical tables, lights, and monitors according to the specific requirements of each procedure. Assisting Surgical Team: Assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other members of the surgical team during procedures by providing them with the necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond promptly to requests for assistance. Sterilization of Equipment: Sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies using autoclaves, sterilization machines, or other sterilization methods to ensure that they are free from bacteria and contaminants. Adhere to strict infection control protocols and regulatory standards to maintain a sterile environment in the operating room. Maintaining Surgical Instruments: Clean, inspect, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment to ensure their proper functioning and longevity. Report any damaged or malfunctioning instruments to the appropriate personnel for repair or replacement. Patient Preparation: Assist with patient positioning, draping, and prepping before surgery to ensure that the surgical site is clean, sterile, and accessible. Position patients on the operating table and secure them safely using straps or other devices to prevent movement during surgery. Anesthesia Assistance: Assist anesthesiologists in administering anesthesia to patients, monitoring their vital signs, and ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the surgical procedure. Prepare and maintain anesthesia equipment and supplies as needed. Instrument Passing and Counting: Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures, following sterile technique and maintaining strict aseptic practices. Participate in surgical counts of instruments, sponges, and other items to ensure that nothing is left behind in the patient's body. Postoperative Care: Assist with wound closure, dressing application, and patient transfer to the recovery area after surgery. Clean and restock the operating room for the next procedure, disposing of medical waste and biohazard materials according to established protocols. Emergency Response: Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies or complications that may arise during surgery, following established protocols and assisting the surgical team in stabilizing the patient and addressing the situation. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, equipment usage, and patient information, documenting relevant details such as procedure notes, instrument counts, and patient responses. Ensure that documentation is complete, legible, and compliant with regulatory requirements. Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with members of the surgical team, including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated and efficient care delivery. Communicate effectively and work together to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Continuous Learning and Development: Stay updated on advances in surgical techniques, equipment, and best practices through ongoing education, training programs, and professional development activities.
