Job description

Preparation of therapy materials: Assisting with the preparation and set-up of therapy materials, equipment, and tools needed for occupational therapy sessions, ensuring that everything is clean, organized, and readily accessible. Patient assistance and support: Helping patients or clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and therapeutic exercises as directed by the occupational therapist, providing physical assistance, encouragement, and emotional support as needed. Observation and documentation: Observing and documenting patient progress, responses, and behaviors during therapy sessions, recording relevant information accurately and timely in patient charts or electronic medical records. Equipment maintenance: Maintaining and cleaning therapy equipment and devices, ensuring that they are in good working condition, and reporting any maintenance issues or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel. Transfer and mobility assistance: Assisting patients with transfers, positioning, and mobility activities, including helping them move safely between surfaces, use mobility aids, and practice proper body mechanics during functional tasks. Communication and collaboration: Communicating effectively with occupational therapists, other healthcare team members, and patients or clients to coordinate care, exchange information, and ensure continuity of treatment goals and strategies. Patient education: Providing education to patients and their families or caregivers on therapeutic exercises, adaptive techniques, assistive devices, and strategies to promote independence, safety, and optimal functioning in daily activities. Environmental modifications: Assisting with the implementation of environmental modifications or adaptations to support patients' independence and participation in meaningful activities, such as installing grab bars, adaptive equipment, or ergonomic workstations. Safety protocols: Adhering to safety protocols and infection control measures to minimize risks of injury, accidents, or the spread of infections within the therapy environment, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe handling of equipment and materials. Professional development: Engaging in continuous learning and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in occupational therapy techniques, procedures, and best practices, and staying updated on industry trends and advancements.
