Job description

Curriculum Development: Develop and update curriculum materials, course syllabi, and instructional resources for optometry courses. Design learning objectives, lesson plans, and assessments that align with program goals and accreditation standards. Classroom Instruction: Deliver lectures, lead discussions, and facilitate hands-on laboratory sessions to teach fundamental concepts and techniques in optometry, including visual optics, ocular anatomy, refractive errors, and clinical procedures. Clinical Training: Supervise and mentor students in clinical settings, such as eye clinics or externship placements, to provide hands-on experience in patient care, diagnostic procedures, vision testing, and eyewear prescribing. Provide feedback and guidance to students to enhance their clinical skills and professionalism. Research and Scholarship: Conduct scholarly research in the field of optometry, vision science, or related areas. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the profession. Student Advising: Provide academic advising and career counseling to students regarding course selection, program requirements, licensure exams, and career pathways in optometry. Offer mentorship and support to students to help them succeed academically and professionally. Laboratory Management: Oversee optometry laboratories and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance, calibration, and safety protocols. Develop and implement lab exercises and demonstrations to reinforce theoretical concepts and practical skills. Clinical Practice Management: Teach students principles of practice management, including patient scheduling, billing, coding, and record-keeping. Prepare students for the business aspects of optometric practice, such as insurance reimbursement and regulatory compliance. Continuing Education: Participate in continuing education activities to stay current with advancements in optometric practice, technology, and research. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance teaching effectiveness and professional development. Interprofessional Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues from other healthcare disciplines, such as ophthalmology, opticianry, and primary care, to promote interdisciplinary learning and patient-centered care. Facilitate interprofessional education initiatives and collaborative research projects. Community Engagement: Engage with the local community through outreach programs, vision screenings, and public education events to promote eye health awareness and access to vision care services. Build partnerships with healthcare organizations, schools, and community groups to address vision-related issues.
