Assisting Patients: Optical technicians assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear based on their prescription, visual needs, lifestyle, and preferences. They provide guidance on frame styles, lens options, and lens materials to help patients make informed decisions. Taking Measurements: Optical technicians measure patients' facial features, such as pupillary distance, bridge width, and temple length, to ensure proper fit and alignment of eyeglasses. Accurate measurements are essential for optimal vision correction and comfort. Lens Edging and Finishing: Optical technicians cut and shape lenses to fit into eyeglass frames using specialized equipment, such as lens edgers and surfacing machines. They may also perform lens finishing tasks, such as polishing, beveling, and tinting, to customize lenses according to prescription requirements. Frame Adjustments and Repairs: They adjust eyeglass frames to ensure proper fit, comfort, and alignment on the wearer's face. This may involve bending, reshaping, or replacing frame components to accommodate individual preferences and facial characteristics. Additionally, optical technicians repair damaged frames, replace nose pads, and perform minor repairs to restore functionality and extend the lifespan of eyewear. Lens Insertion and Assembly: Optical technicians assemble prescription lenses into eyeglass frames, ensuring correct alignment and mounting. They may use adhesives, screws, or other fasteners to secure lenses in place and ensure they are centered and aligned with the wearer's eyes. Educating Patients: They educate patients on proper eyewear care, maintenance, and usage to maximize the lifespan and performance of their glasses. This includes providing instructions on cleaning methods, storage, and handling precautions to prevent damage or deterioration of lenses and frames. Assisting with Contact Lenses: Some optical technicians assist with fitting and dispensing contact lenses to patients. They provide instruction on proper insertion, removal, cleaning, and care of contact lenses, as well as guidance on compliance with wearing schedules and follow-up appointments. Maintaining Inventory: Optical technicians manage inventory levels of frames, lenses, and other eyewear products, ensuring adequate stock availability to meet patient needs and preferences. They may order supplies, track inventory levels, and organize display shelves to showcase available products effectively. Customer Service: Optical technicians provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries, concerns, and requests in a courteous and professional manner.
