Lens Preparation: Optical technicians prepare lenses for eyeglasses or contact lenses according to prescriptions provided by optometrists or ophthalmologists. This involves cutting, shaping, and edging lenses to fit frames or contact lens specifications. Frame Selection and Fitting: They assist patients in selecting frames that suit their preferences and facial features. Optical technicians ensure proper fitting of frames by adjusting them for comfort and optimal vision correction. Lens Finishing: After cutting and shaping lenses, technicians may apply coatings (such as anti-reflective coatings or UV protection) to enhance the functionality and durability of the lenses. Contact Lens Handling: For contact lenses, optical technicians may assist in fitting lenses to patients' eyes, providing instructions on proper insertion, removal, and care of contact lenses. Repairs and Adjustments: They repair damaged eyeglasses by replacing lenses or making adjustments to frames. This includes soldering, replacing nose pads, and aligning frames to ensure proper fit and comfort. Quality Control: Optical technicians perform quality checks on finished eyeglasses or contact lenses to ensure they meet prescription specifications and quality standards.
