Patient Consultations and Neurological Examinations: Conducting thorough medical evaluations and consultations with patients to assess their neurological symptoms, medical history, and risk factors for neurological disorders. Performing comprehensive neurological examinations to evaluate sensory, motor, cognitive, and autonomic function. Diagnostic Testing and Interpretation: Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and procedures to evaluate neurological conditions and determine the underlying causes. This may include imaging studies (such as MRI or CT scans), electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies, lumbar puncture (spinal tap), and genetic testing. Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: Diagnosing and developing individualized treatment plans for patients with neurological disorders, including: Stroke: Ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), and other cerebrovascular disorders. Epilepsy: Seizure disorders, epilepsy syndromes, and other seizure-related conditions. Movement Disorders: Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, Huntington's disease, and other movement disorders. Neurodegenerative Diseases: Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and other neurodegenerative disorders. Headaches and Migraines: Tension-type headaches, migraine headaches, cluster headaches, and other headache disorders. Neuromuscular Disorders: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis (MS), peripheral neuropathy, myasthenia gravis, and other neuromuscular conditions. Neuroinflammatory Disorders: Multiple sclerosis, autoimmune encephalitis, neuromyelitis optica, and other inflammatory disorders of the nervous system. Neurogenetic Disorders: Genetic disorders affecting the nervous system, such as Huntington's disease, muscular dystrophy, and hereditary neuropathies. Medication Management: Prescribing and managing medications to treat neurological symptoms, control disease progression, and improve quality of life for patients with neurological disorders. This may include anticonvulsants, antiparkinsonian drugs, antiepileptic drugs, dopaminergic agents, cholinesterase inhibitors, and immunomodulatory agents. Botulinum Toxin Injections: Administering botulinum toxin injections (such as Botox injections) for the treatment of movement disorders, spasticity, dystonia, chronic migraine, and other neurological conditions. Monitoring treatment response and adjusting injection sites and dosages as needed to optimize outcomes. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Therapy: Evaluating candidates for deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy and providing preoperative assessment, surgical planning, and postoperative management for patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, and dystonia. Stroke Care and Rehabilitation: Providing acute stroke care, including thrombolytic therapy (such as tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA) and endovascular procedures (such as mechanical thrombectomy) for eligible patients with acute ischemic stroke. Collaborating with stroke teams to optimize patient outcomes and facilitate rehabilitation and recovery following stroke. Neurocritical Care: Managing patients with critical neurological conditions in the neurocritical care unit (NCCU), including traumatic brain injury, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and status epilepticus. Providing advanced monitoring, neuroprotective measures, and supportive care to minimize neurological injury and improve outcomes. Pain Management: Evaluating and managing chronic pain conditions, neuropathic pain syndromes, and headache disorders using a multidisciplinary approach. Offering pharmacological interventions, nerve blocks, neurostimulation techniques, and complementary therapies to alleviate pain and improve quality of life. Clinical Research and Trials: Participating in clinical research studies, trials, and registries to advance knowledge and innovation in the field of neurology. Contributing to scientific literature, academic publications, and medical conferences to disseminate findings and promote evidence-based practice. Education and Training: Providing education and training to medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals in the field of neurology. Teaching neurological principles, clinical skills, and evidence-based practices to facilitate professional development and excellence in patient care. Patient Education and Support: Educating patients and their families about neurological conditions, treatment options, prognosis, and lifestyle modifications. Offering counseling, emotional support, and resources to help patients cope with the challenges of living with neurological disorders and promote self-management strategies for optimal health and well-being.
