Job description

Collection Development: Select and acquire library materials, including books, journals, electronic resources, and multimedia materials, based on the needs and interests of library users. Evaluate existing collections and make recommendations for additions or removals. Cataloging and Classification: Organize and catalog library materials using standard classification systems, such as the Dewey Decimal Classification or Library of Congress Classification. Create bibliographic records, assign subject headings, and ensure accurate metadata. Reference Services: Provide reference assistance and research support to library users. Assist patrons in locating information, accessing databases, and using library resources effectively. Answer reference questions in person, by phone, or via email. Information Literacy Instruction: Develop and deliver information literacy programs and workshops to help library users develop research skills, critical thinking abilities, and information literacy competencies. Teach users how to evaluate sources, cite references, and conduct effective research. Library Management: Oversee day-to-day library operations, including circulation services, interlibrary loan, and reserve materials. Manage library facilities, equipment, and technology infrastructure. Train and supervise library staff and student assistants. Collection Maintenance: Maintain the physical condition of library materials through preservation and conservation efforts. Monitor circulation statistics, usage patterns, and collection assessments to inform collection management decisions. Digital Resources Management: Manage electronic resources, digital archives, and online databases. Ensure seamless access to digital collections and troubleshoot technical issues. Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in digital librarianship. Community Outreach: Engage with library users and the broader community through outreach initiatives, events, and programming. Collaborate with local schools, universities, and community organizations to promote literacy and lifelong learning. Information Access Policies: Develop and enforce library policies and procedures related to access, confidentiality, copyright compliance, and intellectual freedom. Educate library users about their rights and responsibilities regarding library resources. Professional Development: Stay current with developments in library science, information technology, and academic research. Participate in professional associations, conferences, and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge. Assessment and Evaluation: Assess the effectiveness of library services, programs, and resources through user surveys, feedback mechanisms, and usage statistics. Use assessment data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts. Collaboration and Partnerships: Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and other stakeholders to support teaching, learning, and research activities. Establish partnerships with other libraries, consortia, and information providers to expand access to resources and services.
