Job description

Specimen Collection: Collect various types of biological specimens, such as blood, urine, and tissue samples, from patients using proper techniques and safety precautions. Label specimens accurately and ensure proper handling and transportation to the laboratory. Laboratory Testing: Perform a wide range of laboratory tests on collected specimens using automated analyzers, equipment, and manual methods. Tests may include blood chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, urinalysis, and molecular diagnostics. Quality Control: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results by performing quality control procedures, calibrating equipment, and following established protocols. Monitor and document quality control data and take corrective actions as needed. Data Entry and Record Keeping: Record test results accurately and enter data into laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Maintain organized records of patient samples, test results, and laboratory procedures for documentation and reference. Instrument Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure proper functioning and reliability. Clean and sterilize equipment according to established protocols and maintain a safe and clean work environment. Safety and Compliance: Follow laboratory safety protocols and guidelines to prevent exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, and infectious agents. Adhere to regulatory requirements and accreditation standards, such as Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Result Interpretation: Analyze laboratory test results and interpret findings in collaboration with medical technologists, pathologists, and healthcare providers. Communicate critical or abnormal results promptly to healthcare providers for timely patient care and intervention. Patient Interaction: Interact with patients to explain laboratory procedures, collect specimens, and provide instructions for sample collection. Maintain professionalism, compassion, and confidentiality when interacting with patients and their families. Continuing Education: Stay updated on advances in laboratory technology, methodologies, and best practices through ongoing education and professional development. Attend training sessions, workshops, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills in laboratory science. Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and allied health staff, to ensure coordinated patient care. Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to provide timely and accurate laboratory services.
