Job description

Sample Collection and Preparation: Lab technicians collect specimens from patients or research subjects, such as blood, urine, or tissue samples. They ensure proper labeling, storage, and transportation of samples to maintain integrity. Conducting Laboratory Tests: Performing a variety of tests using equipment and instruments specific to the laboratory's focus area (e.g., clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology). This includes following standardized procedures and protocols to ensure accurate and reliable results. Data Entry and Record Keeping: Recording test results accurately into laboratory information systems (LIS) or other databases. Maintaining detailed records of tests performed, including patient or sample information, test methods, and results. Quality Control and Assurance: Monitoring and maintaining quality control measures within the laboratory. This involves calibrating equipment, validating test methods, and performing routine checks to ensure accuracy and precision of results. Analysis and Interpretation: Analyzing test results and interpreting findings based on established reference ranges or clinical guidelines. Identifying and reporting abnormal or critical results to healthcare providers or researchers promptly. Instrument Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure proper functioning. Reporting any equipment malfunctions or issues to supervisors or biomedical engineers. Compliance and Safety: Adhering to safety protocols and regulations to minimize risks associated with handling biohazardous materials, chemicals, or infectious samples. Following laboratory procedures for waste disposal and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, and researchers, to discuss test results and patient care plans. Communicating effectively within the laboratory team and with external stakeholders. Continuing Education and Training: Staying updated on advancements in laboratory techniques, technologies, and regulations through continuing education and training programs. This ensures proficiency in performing tests and adapting to changes in the field. Research Support: Assisting in research projects by conducting experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to scientific publications or presentations. Lab technicians in research settings may also help with literature reviews and experimental design.
