Job description

Sample Collection and Processing: Collect patient samples, such as blood, urine, tissue, or other bodily fluids, following established protocols and safety guidelines. Prepare samples for analysis by labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, and storing them appropriately. Laboratory Testing: Perform a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures using specialized equipment, instruments, and techniques. This may include biochemical, hematological, microbiological, immunological, molecular, and histological analyses. Quality Control: Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and validity of test results by following quality control procedures, calibrating instruments, maintaining equipment, and performing proficiency testing as required. Data Entry and Documentation: Record and document test results, observations, and other relevant information accurately and legibly in laboratory information systems (LIS) or other electronic record-keeping systems. Maintain organized and up-to-date records of tests performed and samples analyzed. Instrument Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning and accuracy of results. Report any malfunctions or issues to supervisors for repair or replacement. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to laboratory safety protocols, biohazard guidelines, and infection control practices to minimize risks to yourself, colleagues, and patients. Handle hazardous materials, chemicals, and biological specimens safely and responsibly. Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables. Order supplies as needed, maintain stock levels, and ensure proper storage conditions to prevent waste or expiration. Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance programs, proficiency testing, and accreditation processes to maintain compliance with regulatory standards, such as CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), CAP (College of American Pathologists), or other accrediting bodies. Specimen Tracking and Transport: Track specimens from collection to analysis, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and chain of custody. Coordinate specimen transport or shipment to reference laboratories or other facilities as needed. Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Analyze and interpret test results, troubleshoot technical issues, and resolve discrepancies or abnormalities in data. Consult with supervisors, pathologists, or other healthcare professionals as needed for guidance or clarification. Communication: Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, laboratory staff, and patients regarding test results, specimen requirements, and other relevant information. Provide clear and concise instructions for sample collection and handling. Professional Development: Stay updated on advances in laboratory technology, methodologies, and best practices through continuing education, professional development activities, and participation in relevant workshops or seminars. Patient Interaction: Interact with patients in a professional, empathetic, and compassionate manner when collecting samples or providing instructions. Address patient concerns, provide reassurance, and maintain confidentiality and privacy at all times. Research Support: Assist researchers or scientists with laboratory experiments, data collection, analysis, and documentation as needed to support research projects or clinical trials. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, pathologists, and other laboratory personnel, to ensure coordinated patient care and optimal outcomes.
