Job description

1. Food Preparation: Assisting with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients. Measuring and portioning ingredients according to recipes and instructions provided by chefs or cooks. Preparing simple dishes or components of dishes under the supervision of kitchen staff. 2. Dishwashing and Cleaning: Washing dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment by hand or using dishwashing machines. Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen surfaces, countertops, and equipment by wiping them down and sanitizing them regularly. Emptying trash bins, recycling bins, and compost bins as needed and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. 3. Kitchen Organization and Stocking: Organizing and storing ingredients, supplies, and equipment in designated storage areas according to inventory management protocols. Receiving and unpacking deliveries of food, beverages, and kitchen supplies, checking for accuracy and quality. Restocking kitchen supplies, condiments, and disposables as needed to ensure they are readily available for use. 4. Assisting Cooks and Chefs: Assisting cooks and chefs during food preparation and cooking activities by fetching ingredients, utensils, and equipment as requested. Monitoring food cooking times and temperatures and notifying kitchen staff of any issues or concerns. Following instructions and recipes provided by chefs and cooks to ensure consistency and quality of food items. 5. Kitchen Maintenance and Safety: Assisting with routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning kitchen equipment, appliances, and ventilation systems. Reporting any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or maintenance issues to supervisors or kitchen managers promptly. Adhering to health and safety regulations and guidelines, including proper food handling, sanitation, and personal hygiene practices. 6. Teamwork and Communication: Collaborating with other kitchen staff, including cooks, chefs, and servers, to coordinate food preparation and service activities. Communicating effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of tasks. Offering assistance and support to kitchen staff during busy periods or special events to maintain productivity and efficiency. 7. Customer Service: Assisting with food service activities such as plating, garnishing, and food presentation as needed to support kitchen staff during peak service times. Interacting with customers in a friendly and courteous manner when delivering food orders or assisting with special requests. Responding to customer inquiries or concerns professionally and promptly, and escalating issues to supervisors as needed.
