Food Preparation: Kitchen helpers assist in basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients under the direction of chefs or cooks. They may also assist in assembling ingredients, measuring portions, and following recipes to prepare dishes. Dishwashing: One of the primary responsibilities of a kitchen helper is to wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment used during food preparation and service. They operate commercial dishwashers, hand wash dishes as needed, and ensure that all items are cleaned, sanitized, and properly stored. Kitchen Cleaning: Kitchen helpers are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen area. They clean countertops, sinks, stovetops, and kitchen equipment, sweep and mop floors, empty trash bins, and sanitize food preparation surfaces to ensure a hygienic environment. Stocking and Organization: Kitchen helpers assist in stocking and organizing ingredients, supplies, and equipment in the kitchen. They may receive deliveries, unpack and store supplies in designated areas, rotate stock to ensure freshness, and maintain inventory records as needed. Assisting Cooks and Chefs: Kitchen helpers provide support to cooks and chefs during busy periods by fetching ingredients, utensils, and equipment, as well as assisting with cooking tasks as directed. They may help plate dishes, garnish food, and coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient service. Food Service Support: In some kitchen environments, kitchen helpers may also assist with food service tasks such as setting up buffet stations, replenishing food supplies, clearing tables, and assisting with meal service during events or catering functions. Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations: Kitchen helpers adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines governing food handling, sanitation, and hygiene practices in the kitchen. They follow proper handwashing procedures, wear appropriate protective gear, and maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent food contamination and ensure food safety. Teamwork and Collaboration: Kitchen helpers work collaboratively with other kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, servers, and dishwashers, to achieve common goals and deliver high-quality food and service to customers. They communicate effectively, follow instructions, and contribute to a positive and productive work environment. Adherence to Kitchen Procedures: Kitchen helpers follow kitchen procedures, protocols, and standards established by the head chef or kitchen manager.
