Geology Lab Technician Job in Wayanad

Wayanad, Kerala Full Time Date: 11 April 2024

Job description

Sample Preparation: Geology Lab Technicians prepare geological samples for analysis by cleaning, cutting, crushing, and grinding them to the required size and consistency. They follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the integrity of the samples. Mineral Identification: They perform mineral identification tests using techniques such as polarized light microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). These tests help identify the minerals present in the samples and characterize their properties. Rock Thin Section Preparation: Geology Lab Technicians prepare thin sections of rock samples by slicing thin slices of rock, mounting them on glass slides, and grinding them to a precise thickness. Thin sections are used for petrographic analysis and microscopy. Sediment Analysis: They analyze sediment samples to determine their composition, grain size distribution, and other properties. Sediment analysis may involve techniques such as sieving, sedimentation, and particle size analysis. Geochemical Analysis: Geology Lab Technicians conduct geochemical analyses of geological samples to determine the elemental composition and concentration of various elements. Techniques such as X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) are commonly used for geochemical analysis. Data Interpretation: They interpret laboratory data and results, prepare reports, and communicate findings to geologists and researchers. Geology Lab Technicians may assist in data analysis and contribute to research publications and presentations. Instrument Maintenance: They maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, including microscopes, spectrometers, and sample preparation tools, to ensure accurate and reliable results. Safety Compliance: Geology Lab Technicians adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment in the laboratory. This includes proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with laboratory safety regulations. Collaboration: They collaborate with geologists, researchers, and other laboratory staff to support ongoing research projects, share expertise, and contribute to the achievement of research goals.
