Concept Development: They develop creative concepts and themes for their collections, translating inspiration into cohesive design concepts, color palettes, silhouettes, and fabric choices. Fashion designers sketch or illustrate their ideas to visually communicate their vision and design direction. Fabric Selection and Sourcing: Fashion designers select appropriate fabrics, materials, and trims for their designs based on aesthetic, functional, and performance requirements. They collaborate with fabric suppliers, mills, and manufacturers to source quality materials and negotiate pricing and production timelines. Pattern Making and Draping: Fashion designers create patterns and prototypes of their designs through pattern making and draping techniques. They use flat pattern drafting, draping on dress forms, or digital pattern software to develop garment prototypes and refine fit, shape, and proportions.
