Preparing Dialysis Equipment: Setting up and preparing dialysis machines and equipment for patient treatments. Dialysis technicians ensure that all equipment is clean, calibrated, and functioning properly before each treatment session. Patient Assessment: Conducting pre-treatment assessments of patients, including reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and laboratory test results. Dialysis technicians assess patients' overall health status and readiness for dialysis treatment. Venipuncture and Access Care: Performing venipuncture to access patients' vascular access sites, such as arteriovenous fistulas, grafts, or catheters, for dialysis treatment. Dialysis technicians ensure proper cannulation techniques and monitor access sites for signs of complications or infections. Dialysis Treatment: Administering dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders and treatment protocols. Dialysis technicians monitor patients' vital signs, adjust machine settings as needed, and provide continuous oversight and support during treatment sessions. Monitoring Patients: Monitoring patients' condition and response to dialysis treatment throughout the session. Dialysis technicians observe patients for signs of complications, such as hypotension, hypertension, or adverse reactions, and intervene promptly to address any issues. Fluid Management: Monitoring patients' fluid status and ultrafiltration rates during dialysis treatment. Dialysis technicians regulate the removal of excess fluid from patients' bloodstreams to maintain fluid balance and prevent fluid overload or dehydration. Medication Administration: Administering medications, such as heparin or saline, as prescribed by the healthcare provider to prevent blood clotting and maintain electrolyte balance during dialysis treatment. Dialysis technicians ensure accurate dosing and administration of medications according to established protocols. Patient Education: Providing patient education on kidney disease, dialysis treatment, and self-care techniques. Dialysis technicians educate patients on dietary restrictions, fluid intake limits, medication management, and lifestyle modifications to optimize their health and well-being. Infection Control: Implementing infection control measures to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases in the dialysis unit. Dialysis technicians adhere to strict hygiene protocols, maintain a clean and sanitary environment, and follow standard precautions to minimize the risk of infections. Documentation and Reporting: Documenting patient assessments, treatment interventions, and observations accurately and thoroughly in patients' medical records. Dialysis technicians maintain detailed records of dialysis treatments, medication administration, and patient responses for continuity of care and regulatory compliance.
