Job description

Preparing Dialysis Equipment: Set up and prepare dialysis machines and equipment for use before each treatment session. Ensure that all components are clean, calibrated, and functioning properly according to established protocols and safety standards. Patient Assessment: Conduct initial assessments of patients before dialysis treatment to gather relevant medical history, assess vital signs, and evaluate their overall health status. Monitor and document changes in patients' condition during treatment, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight. Vascular Access Cannulation: Prepare vascular access sites, such as arteriovenous fistulas, arteriovenous grafts, or central venous catheters, for dialysis treatment. Perform venipuncture and cannulation procedures to access the patient's bloodstream safely and efficiently. Initiating and Terminating Dialysis: Start and stop dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders from nephrologists or healthcare providers. Monitor the flow rates, pressures, and parameters of dialysis machines to ensure that treatments are administered accurately and effectively. Monitoring Dialysis Process: Monitor patients closely during dialysis treatment, observing for any signs of complications, adverse reactions, or alarms from the dialysis machine. Respond promptly to changes in patients' condition and intervene as needed to maintain their safety and well-being. Fluid Management: Regulate the volume and rate of fluid removal during dialysis to achieve optimal fluid balance and prevent complications such as hypotension, hypovolemia, or fluid overload. Adjust ultrafiltration rates and dialysate composition based on patients' clinical status and treatment goals. Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications, heparin anticoagulation, and other agents as directed by healthcare providers to prevent clotting, maintain vascular access patency, and manage electrolyte imbalances or other complications during dialysis. Infection Control: Follow strict infection control protocols and sterile techniques to minimize the risk of bloodstream infections, catheter-related infections, or other healthcare-associated infections. Adhere to hand hygiene practices, use personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean and sanitary environment in the dialysis unit. Patient Education and Support: Educate patients and their families about the dialysis process, treatment modalities, dietary restrictions, fluid restrictions, and self-care practices to promote adherence to treatment and improve outcomes. Provide emotional support, encouragement, and reassurance to patients undergoing dialysis. Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of dialysis treatments, vital signs, medications administered, and other relevant information in patients' medical records. Ensure that documentation is complete, legible, and compliant with regulatory requirements. Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies, such as hypotension, arrhythmias, or dialysis-related complications, during treatment sessions. Follow established protocols and procedures for initiating emergency interventions, summoning assistance, and stabilizing patients. Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and disinfection of dialysis machines, filters, tubing, and equipment to ensure their proper functioning and hygiene. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or alarms, performing basic repairs or contacting technical support as needed. Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Collaborate closely with nephrologists, nurses, dietitians, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide comprehensive care for dialysis patients. Communicate effectively and share relevant information to coordinate patient care and address individual needs.
