Dental Cleanings: You perform dental cleanings (prophylaxis) to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from patients' teeth. This includes scaling and polishing teeth to prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar, which can lead to cavities and gum disease. Sealants act as a protective barrier to seal out bacteria and food particles that can cause decay. Patient Education: You educate patients about proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing techniques, flossing methods, and the importance of regular dental visits. You provide personalized oral hygiene instructions and recommendations to help patients maintain optimal oral health at home. Dental X-rays: You take dental radiographs (X-rays) of patients' teeth and jaws as directed by the dentist. You position patients correctly, operate X-ray equipment, and ensure that images are clear and accurate for diagnostic purposes. You provide guidance on making healthy choices and adopting habits that promote oral health and overall well-being. Assisting Dentists: You assist dentists during dental procedures, such as fillings, crowns, and extractions, by providing support and assistance as needed. This may include handing instruments, suctioning saliva, and providing patient comfort measures. You ensure that all documentation is complete and compliant with regulatory standards. Continuing Education: You stay updated on the latest trends, techniques, and advancements in dental hygiene through continuing education courses and professional development activities. You seek opportunities to enhance your clinical skills and knowledge to provide the highest level of care to patients.
