Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Computer technicians assess and diagnose issues reported by users or identified through system diagnostics. This may involve identifying hardware failures, software errors, network connectivity issues, or performance problems. Hardware Repair and Maintenance: Computer technicians repair and replace faulty hardware components such as motherboards, CPUs, RAM modules, hard drives, graphics cards, power supplies, and peripherals (e.g., keyboards, mice, monitors). They may also upgrade hardware components to improve system performance or compatibility. Software Installation and Configuration: Computer technicians install, configure, and update operating systems, drivers, and software applications on computers. This includes installing patches, updates, and security software to protect against malware, viruses, and other security threats. Data Backup and Recovery: Computer technicians perform data backup procedures to safeguard important files and information. In the event of data loss due to hardware failure, software corruption, or accidental deletion, they use data recovery tools and techniques to retrieve lost data from storage devices. Networking Support: Computer technicians troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues, including wired and wireless networks. This involves configuring routers, switches, access points, and firewalls, as well as diagnosing problems with IP addressing, DNS resolution, and network protocols. Peripheral Setup and Configuration: Computer technicians set up and configure peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and multimedia devices. They ensure compatibility with computer systems and troubleshoot connectivity issues between devices. Virus and Malware Removal: Computer technicians scan computers for viruses, malware, and other malicious software using antivirus and antimalware tools. They remove infected files, clean up system registries, and implement security measures to prevent future infections. Customer Service and Support: Computer technicians provide technical support and assistance to users experiencing computer-related issues. They communicate effectively with customers, offer guidance and instructions for troubleshooting, and provide timely resolutions to problems. Preventive Maintenance: Computer technicians perform routine maintenance tasks to prevent hardware failures and system downtime. This includes cleaning computer components, updating firmware, optimizing system performance, and monitoring system health. Documentation and Reporting: Computer technicians maintain accurate records of repairs, service tickets, and inventory. They document troubleshooting steps, solutions implemented, and recommendations for future maintenance or upgrades. They may also generate reports on system performance, hardware/software inventory, and service metrics.
