Job description

Structural Design: Designing structures such as buildings, bridges, dams, towers, and tunnels to ensure they are structurally sound and can withstand environmental loads, including gravity, wind, earthquake, and soil pressures. Analysis and Calculation: Performing structural analysis using engineering software and manual calculations to determine stresses, forces, and deflections within structural components. Ensuring designs meet safety and performance criteria. Material Selection: Selecting appropriate construction materials, such as concrete, steel, timber, and masonry, based on structural requirements, durability considerations, and cost-effectiveness. CAD and Modeling: Using computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SAP2000, to create detailed structural drawings, models, and plans. Collaborating with drafters and designers to produce accurate construction documents. Code Compliance: Ensuring designs comply with local, national, and international building codes, regulations, and standards. Staying updated on code changes and advancements in structural engineering practices. Construction Oversight: Providing technical support during the construction phase, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), and conducting site visits to monitor construction progress and resolve technical issues. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identifying potential risks and hazards related to structural design and construction. Developing risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address unforeseen challenges. Collaboration and Coordination: Working closely with architects, contractors, project managers, and other stakeholders to coordinate design efforts, resolve conflicts, and ensure project goals are met. Quality Assurance: Conducting quality assurance checks on structural designs and calculations. Performing peer reviews and participating in design reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements. Project Management: Managing aspects of structural engineering projects, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and progress tracking. Ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget constraints. Continuous Learning and Development: Staying updated on advancements in structural engineering technology, materials, and construction methods. Pursuing professional development opportunities and obtaining relevant certifications. Communication Skills: Effectively communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders, including clients, regulatory authorities, and project team members. Presenting design concepts, analyses, and recommendations clearly and persuasively.
