Job description

Structural Analysis and Design: Conducting structural analysis to determine the forces, stresses, and deformations acting on a structure under various loading conditions. Using engineering principles, codes, and standards to design safe, efficient, and cost-effective structural systems that can withstand anticipated loads and environmental conditions. Material Selection: Selecting appropriate construction materials such as concrete, steel, timber, and masonry based on structural requirements, performance criteria, and budget considerations. Evaluating material properties, durability, and sustainability to optimize structural performance and longevity. Design Calculations and Modeling: Performing mathematical calculations, simulations, and computer-aided design (CAD) modeling to develop detailed structural designs, drawings, and specifications. This includes determining member sizes, reinforcement details, and connection types to ensure structural stability, integrity, and compliance with building codes and regulations. Risk Assessment and Safety Analysis: Identifying potential risks and hazards associated with structural design and construction activities, and implementing risk mitigation measures to enhance structural safety and resilience. Conducting structural integrity assessments, failure analyses, and safety inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices. Code Compliance: Ensuring that structural designs and construction practices comply with relevant building codes, zoning regulations, and industry standards. Keeping abreast of updates and revisions to building codes and regulations, and incorporating them into design processes to maintain regulatory compliance and minimize liability. Construction Supervision: Providing technical support and guidance during the construction phase of projects to ensure that structural elements are installed and executed according to design specifications and quality standards. Conducting site inspections, reviewing shop drawings, and resolving construction-related issues to ensure structural integrity and safety. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with architects, civil engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to integrate structural design considerations into overall project planning and execution. Communicating effectively with interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders to coordinate design activities, resolve conflicts, and achieve project objectives. Performance Evaluation and Retrofitting: Evaluating the performance of existing structures, assessing their structural integrity and condition, and recommending retrofitting or rehabilitation measures to enhance safety, durability, and functionality. This may involve conducting structural assessments, load testing, and structural health monitoring to identify deficiencies and vulnerabilities. Research and Innovation: Conducting research, experimentation, and innovation to develop new materials, technologies, and methodologies for improving structural design, construction, and performance. Collaborating with academia, industry partners, and professional organizations to advance the field of structural engineering and address emerging challenges and opportunities.
