Chemistry teachers must be fluent in the curriculum and develop schedules, lesson plans, and teaching methods to cover the required content. They prepare and deliver lessons that are stimulating and clear and educate students on lab safety to ensure all experiments are carried out responsibly. The duties of a chemistry teacher include creating lesson plans; preparing and delivering lectures; creating and supervising laboratory activities for students; evaluating student performance; maintaining classroom records; meeting with parents, teachers, and other professionals; and participating in campus events. Learning chemistry allows students to learn about the scientific method and gain skills in critical thinking, deductive reasoning, problem-solving, and communication. Teaching chemistry to students at a young age can increase student interest in STEM careers.
