Job description

Assisting with Procedures: Prepare the catheterization lab, equipment, and supplies for procedures such as angiograms, angioplasties, stent placements, and cardiac catheterizations. Assist cardiologists and other medical staff during procedures by providing technical support and instrument assistance. Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for catheterization procedures by explaining the procedure, obtaining consent, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. Position and drape patients appropriately and monitor their vital signs throughout the procedure. Operating Equipment: Operate specialized imaging equipment, such as fluoroscopy machines, ultrasound machines, and physiological monitoring devices, during catheterization procedures. Adjust imaging parameters, capture images, and record data as directed by the cardiologist. Sterile Technique: Maintain a sterile field and adhere to aseptic techniques during catheterization procedures to prevent infections and ensure patient safety. Prepare sterile drapes, instruments, and catheters, and assist with catheter insertion and manipulation under sterile conditions. Monitoring Patient Condition: Monitor patients' hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythm, and vital signs during procedures to detect any adverse reactions or complications. Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and communicate findings to the medical team. Administering Medications: Administer medications and contrast agents as directed by the cardiologist, including sedatives, analgesics, antiplatelet agents, and vasodilators. Monitor patients for adverse reactions to medications and contrast agents and intervene as needed. Post-Procedure Care: Assist with post-procedure care and monitoring of patients in the recovery area or cardiac intensive care unit (ICU). Monitor patients' vital signs, assess puncture sites for bleeding or hematoma formation, and provide comfort measures and support as needed. Documentation and Reporting: Document procedural details, patient assessments, medication administration, and other pertinent information accurately and thoroughly in medical records and procedural logs. Communicate with the medical team and record any complications or adverse events. Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and quality control checks on cath lab equipment and imaging systems. Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate repairs or service as needed to ensure the reliability and functionality of equipment. Patient Education: Provide education and instructions to patients and their families regarding post-procedure care, medications, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments. Answer questions, address concerns, and ensure that patients understand their treatment plan and discharge instructions. Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cardiologists, nurses, cardiovascular technologists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care. Communicate clearly and professionally to facilitate teamwork and patient safety. Continuing Education: Stay updated on advances in cardiac catheterization techniques, equipment, and procedures through continuing education, training programs, and professional development opportunities. Pursue relevant certifications or credentials to enhance your skills and knowledge in cardiac cath lab technology.
