Pre-Procedure Preparation: Prepare the Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) and equipment for cardiac catheterization procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and imaging devices are available and functioning properly. Patient Preparation: Assist in preparing patients for cardiac catheterization procedures, including explaining the procedure, obtaining informed consent, and positioning the patient on the examination table. Monitoring the patient's vital signs and administering sedation or anesthesia as directed by the physician. Sterile Technique: Maintain a sterile field in the Cath Lab environment to minimize the risk of infection during invasive procedures. Adhere to strict sterile technique protocols, including gowning, gloving, and draping procedures. Assistance During Procedures: Assist the physician during cardiac catheterization procedures by handing instruments, operating imaging equipment, and monitoring the patient's vital signs. Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure the procedure is performed safely and effectively. Imaging Assistance: Operate fluoroscopy and other imaging equipment to visualize the heart and blood vessels during cardiac catheterization procedures. Adjust imaging parameters as needed to obtain clear and accurate images for the physician's interpretation. Instrumentation and Equipment Management: Set up, calibrate, and maintain Cath Lab equipment and instrumentation to ensure optimal performance and accuracy. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or issues and report any problems to the appropriate personnel for resolution. Patient Monitoring: Monitor the patient's condition throughout the procedure, including vital signs, heart rhythm, and oxygen saturation levels. Respond promptly to any changes in the patient's status and assist the physician in managing complications or adverse events. Post-Procedure Care: Assist in transferring the patient to the recovery area after the procedure, monitoring vital signs, and assessing for signs of complications or adverse reactions. Provide post-procedure instructions to the patient and family members as directed by the physician. Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of procedures, including patient assessments, interventions, medications administered, and imaging findings. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and departmental policies for medical record documentation. Safety and Quality Assurance: Adhere to safety protocols, infection control practices, and radiation safety guidelines to protect patients, staff, and visitors from potential hazards in the Cath Lab environment. Participate in quality assurance initiatives and performance improvement activities to enhance patient care and outcomes. Continuing Education: Participate in ongoing education, training, and professional development activities to stay updated on advances in cardiac catheterization techniques, equipment, and technology. Maintain licensure and certification requirements as applicable to practice as a Cath Lab Technician. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with physicians, nurses, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure smooth workflow in the Cath Lab. Communicate effectively with team members to provide optimal patient care and support.
