Cash Handling: Cashiers handle cash transactions, including receiving payments, providing change, and processing refunds or exchanges. They count cash accurately, reconcile cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts, and follow proper cash handling procedures to minimize errors and discrepancies. Point of Sale (POS) Systems: Cashiers operate POS systems or electronic cash registers to process transactions, scan barcodes, and input product or service information. They are responsible for entering prices, applying discounts or promotions, and processing payments using various payment methods, including cash, credit cards, and digital wallets. Product Scanning and Bagging: Cashiers scan merchandise or items using barcode scanners, ensuring accurate pricing and inventory tracking. They bag purchases, arrange items neatly, and provide assistance with loading or carrying items for customers as needed. Sales and Upselling: Cashiers may promote sales, discounts, or loyalty programs to customers during checkout to increase sales and customer satisfaction. They may suggest complementary products or upgrades based on customer preferences or purchase history to maximize sales opportunities. Verification and ID Checks: Cashiers verify the authenticity of cash, checks, or other forms of payment and may check IDs for age-restricted purchases such as alcohol or tobacco.
