Job description

Customer Service: Providing friendly, efficient, and courteous service to customers at the point of sale. Cashiers greet customers, answer questions, and assist with inquiries, ensuring a positive shopping or dining experience. Cash Handling: Accepting cash, credit card, debit card, and other forms of payment from customers for goods or services. Cashiers accurately calculate totals, process payments using cash registers or point-of-sale (POS) systems, and provide change to customers. Transaction Processing: Scanning or manually entering items into the cash register or POS system, and processing transactions accurately and efficiently. Cashiers verify prices, apply discounts or promotions, and ensure that sales transactions are recorded correctly. Balancing Cash Registers: Balancing cash registers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure accuracy and accountability of cash transactions. Cashiers count cash drawers, reconcile sales receipts, and prepare cash deposits for bank reconciliation. Inventory Control: Monitoring and managing inventory levels by tracking sales, restocking merchandise, and notifying management of low stock or out-of-stock items. Cashiers assist with inventory counts, perform stock replenishment, and maintain neat and organized merchandise displays. Cashier Reports: Generating daily sales reports, transaction summaries, and other cashier reports as required by management. Cashiers document sales activities, reconcile cash registers, and report discrepancies or variances in sales or cash counts. Security and Loss Prevention: Observing customers and monitoring for suspicious behavior or theft to prevent shrinkage and loss. Cashiers follow security procedures, such as checking identification for age-restricted purchases and verifying signatures on credit card transactions. Product Knowledge: Having a good understanding of the products or services offered by the business and being able to provide information and recommendations to customers. Cashiers may assist customers with product inquiries, suggest complementary items, and promote special promotions or offers. Cleanliness and Organization: Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness at the cashier station and surrounding areas. Cashiers ensure that cash registers, checkout lanes, and customer service areas are clean, tidy, and well-maintained throughout the shift. Compliance and Regulations: Adhering to company policies, procedures, and regulations governing cash handling, sales transactions, and customer interactions. Cashiers follow guidelines for cash management, credit card processing, and data security to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
