Job description

Customer Service: You greet customers, answer their questions, and provide assistance with their purchases. You strive to create a positive shopping experience by being friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout their transaction. Cash Handling: You accurately handle cash, checks, credit/debit card payments, and electronic transactions at the checkout counter. This involves processing payments, providing change, and reconciling cash drawers at the beginning and end of your shift. Point of Sale Operations: You operate cash registers or point of sale (POS) systems to scan merchandise, input prices, and generate sales receipts for customers. You ensure that all items are scanned correctly, and prices are accurate to prevent errors. Bagging and Packaging: You bag or package customers' purchases securely and efficiently, taking care to handle fragile or delicate items with care. You may also assist customers with carrying their purchases to their vehicles if needed. Product Knowledge: You have a good understanding of the products sold in the store, including their prices, features, and promotions. This enables you to answer customer inquiries, provide product recommendations, and upsell or cross-sell additional items. Transaction Processing: You process returns, exchanges, and refunds according to store policies and procedures. This involves verifying proof of purchase, inspecting returned items for damage, and issuing refunds or store credits as appropriate. Inventory Management: You monitor and report inventory levels of cash, coins, and other payment forms to ensure that sufficient change is available for transactions. You may also assist with inventory counts and stock replenishment tasks during slow periods. Security and Loss Prevention: You follow security protocols to prevent theft, fraud, or unauthorized transactions at the checkout counter. This includes verifying identification for age-restricted purchases and keeping a vigilant eye on customer behavior. Compliance: You adhere to all cash handling policies, accounting procedures, and regulatory requirements related to financial transactions. This includes maintaining confidentiality of customer information and ensuring compliance with data protection laws. Teamwork: You collaborate with other cashiers, sales associates, and store staff to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient checkout area. You may also assist with other tasks such as stocking shelves, organizing merchandise, or helping with store events as needed.
