Job description

Customer Service: Greet customers as they approach the checkout counter, assist them with their purchases, answer their questions, and provide information about products, promotions, or store policies. Point-of-Sale Transactions: Scan or manually enter items into the cash register or POS (Point of Sale) system, calculate totals, and process payments using cash, credit cards, debit cards, or other forms of payment accepted by the store. Cash Handling: Receive cash payments from customers, count money accurately, provide change, and reconcile cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure that amounts are correct and accounted for. Transaction Accuracy: Ensure the accuracy of transactions by scanning items correctly, inputting prices accurately, applying discounts or coupons as applicable, and verifying the correct amount of change provided to customers. Bagging and Packaging: Bag or package customers' purchases neatly and securely, taking care to handle fragile items with care and ensuring that bags are properly filled and sealed to prevent spills or damage. Returns and Exchanges: Process returns, exchanges, or refunds according to store policies, inspecting items for damage or wear, issuing refunds or store credit, and updating inventory records as necessary. Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of cash register supplies, such as receipt paper, bags, and coins, and request replenishment as needed to ensure smooth operations at the checkout counter. Security Procedures: Follow security procedures and protocols to prevent theft, fraud, or unauthorized access to cash registers or POS systems. Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to store management or security personnel. Product Knowledge: Maintain a good understanding of the store's products, prices, promotions, and policies in order to provide accurate information and assistance to customers during checkout. Upselling and Cross-selling: Recommend additional items or promotions to customers based on their purchases or preferences, with the goal of increasing sales and enhancing the customer shopping experience. Queue Management: Manage checkout lines efficiently by processing transactions quickly, directing customers to available registers, and ensuring that waiting times are kept to a minimum during peak hours. Cleanliness and Organization: Keep the checkout area clean, organized, and free of clutter, including removing empty cartons or debris, wiping down counters, and restocking supplies as needed. Multitasking: Handle multiple tasks simultaneously, such as scanning items, processing payments, answering customer inquiries, and bagging purchases, while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. Adherence to Policies: Adhere to company policies, procedures, and guidelines related to cash handling, customer service, privacy, and security, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Continuous Improvement: Seek opportunities to improve performance, efficiency, and customer satisfaction by actively participating in training programs, seeking feedback from supervisors, and implementing best practices in cashiering duties.
