Diagnostic Testing: Audiologists conduct a variety of diagnostic tests to assess hearing function and identify auditory disorders. This includes audiometric testing (pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry), tympanometry (middle ear function), otoacoustic emissions (inner ear function), and auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing. Hearing Aid Evaluation and Fitting: Audiologists evaluate patients for hearing aids based on their hearing test results, communication needs, and lifestyle. They select appropriate hearing aid technology and fit devices to ensure optimal comfort and effectiveness. They also provide counseling on hearing aid use and maintenance. Balance Assessment: Audiologists assess and diagnose balance disorders (vestibular disorders) through specialized tests such as videonystagmography (VNG), rotary chair testing, and vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP). Counseling and Rehabilitation: Audiologists provide counseling to patients and their families on hearing loss, communication strategies, and coping mechanisms. They offer guidance on managing hearing aids, assistive listening devices, and communication enhancement strategies. Pediatric Audiology: Audiologists specialize in evaluating hearing in infants and children, using age-appropriate testing methods and techniques.
