Job description

Equipment Setup: Prepare and set up anesthesia equipment and supplies in operating rooms, procedure rooms, and other clinical settings. This includes assembling anesthesia machines, ventilators, monitors, IV pumps, and other necessary equipment according to established protocols and safety standards. Patient Preparation: Assist with patient preparation for anesthesia administration, including positioning patients on the operating table, attaching monitoring devices (e.g., ECG leads, pulse oximeters), and establishing intravenous (IV) access for medication administration. Anesthesia Monitoring: Monitor patients' vital signs and physiological parameters before, during, and after anesthesia administration. This includes continuous monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, and end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) levels. Anesthesia Assistance: Assist anesthesiologists and anesthesia providers in administering anesthesia medications and adjunctive agents, such as induction agents, inhalational anesthetics, neuromuscular blocking agents, and analgesics. Prepare and administer medications according to physician orders and established protocols. Airway Management: Assist with airway management techniques, including mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation, and insertion of supraglottic airway devices (e.g., laryngeal mask airways). Ensure proper positioning of airway devices and assist with securing and monitoring the airway throughout the procedure. Intraoperative Support: Provide intraoperative support to the anesthesia team during surgical procedures, including assisting with patient positioning, draping, and sterile field setup. Anticipate and respond to anesthesia-related emergencies or complications, such as hypotension, hypoventilation, or airway obstruction. Anesthesia Maintenance: Monitor anesthesia delivery systems, including gas flow rates, vaporizer settings, and oxygen supply, to ensure proper delivery and maintenance of anesthesia during surgical procedures. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or alarms and initiate corrective actions as needed. Patient Safety: Maintain a safe and sterile environment in the operating room or procedural area, adhering to infection control practices and aseptic techniques. Ensure proper handling, labeling, and disposal of biohazardous materials, sharps, and contaminated supplies. Documentation: Document anesthesia-related activities, interventions, and patient responses in medical records, anesthesia records, and electronic health records (EHRs). Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of anesthesia care, medication administration, and intraoperative events. Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities related to anesthesia services. Contribute to the evaluation of anesthesia equipment, procedures, and protocols to enhance patient safety, efficiency, and quality of care. Continuing Education: Stay updated on advances in anesthesia technology, equipment, and techniques through continuing education, training programs, and professional development opportunities. Maintain certification and licensure requirements as applicable to practice as an Anesthesia Technician. Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with members of the anesthesia team, surgical team, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care and ensure smooth workflow in the perioperative environment. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and promote patient-centered care.
