Job description

Installation: AC Technicians install new air conditioning systems, including central air conditioning units, split-system air conditioners, ductless mini-split systems, window units, and packaged terminal air conditioners (PTACs). They follow blueprints, specifications, and manufacturer instructions to ensure proper installation, including positioning of units, routing of ductwork (if applicable), and connection to electrical systems. Maintenance: AC Technicians perform routine maintenance tasks to keep air conditioning systems operating efficiently and prevent breakdowns. This includes cleaning air filters, condenser coils, and evaporator coils; checking refrigerant levels and pressure; lubricating moving parts; inspecting electrical connections; and testing system controls. Regular maintenance helps prolong the lifespan of AC systems and optimize energy efficiency. Repair: AC Technicians diagnose and troubleshoot problems with air conditioning systems, such as compressor failures, refrigerant leaks, sensor malfunctions, electrical issues, and airflow problems. They use diagnostic tools, gauges, and meters to identify the root cause of problems and implement effective repair solutions. This may involve replacing faulty components, repairing leaks, adjusting settings, or recharging refrigerant levels. Refrigerant Handling: AC Technicians handle refrigerants safely and responsibly in compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards. They recover, recycle, reclaim, and dispose of refrigerants according to EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) guidelines to prevent environmental harm and minimize the release of ozone-depleting substances. System Upgrades and Retrofits: AC Technicians perform system upgrades and retrofits to improve the energy efficiency, performance, and sustainability of existing air conditioning systems. This may involve installing energy-efficient components, upgrading controls, retrofitting older systems with modern technology, or converting systems to use environmentally-friendly refrigerants. Emergency Repairs: AC Technicians respond to emergency service calls to address urgent issues with air conditioning systems, such as equipment failures, leaks, or system malfunctions that affect indoor comfort or threaten equipment integrity. They prioritize safety and efficiency in emergency repair situations to minimize downtime and restore cooling functionality promptly. Customer Service: AC Technicians provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients, responding promptly to service requests, and addressing customer concerns or questions. They educate customers on proper equipment operation, maintenance best practices, and energy-saving tips to optimize comfort and efficiency. Documentation and Reporting: AC Technicians maintain accurate records of service calls, equipment maintenance, repairs performed, and parts used. They complete service reports, work orders, and documentation to track service history, document warranty information, and provide documentation for regulatory compliance or insurance purposes. Safety Compliance: AC Technicians adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations to ensure a safe working environment and prevent accidents or injuries. They use personal protective equipment (PPE), follow safety procedures, and comply with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards for safe work practices, equipment operation, and hazardous materials handling. Continuous Learning: AC Technicians stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices through ongoing training, certification programs, and professional development opportunities. They pursue certifications such as EPA 608 certification for refrigerant handling, manufacturer-specific training, or advanced HVAC certifications to enhance their skills and qualifications in the field.
